The Dog in the Daytime

Poor Lucy seemed to be very upset. She was restless and uneasy all the time. I really think that this is because of her dreams at night. One thing is very strange. She will not admit to me that there is any reason for her to feel this way, or if there is a reason, she does not know what it is.

Lucy is very sweet and she feels things more than other people do. Today she was upset by something so unimportant that I hardly noticed it, even though I like animals very much. One of the men who comes up here often to look at the boats had his dog with him. Actually, the dog is always with him. They are both quiet, and I never saw the man get angry, nor heard the dog bark. Yet during the funeral the dog would not come to its master, who was sitting on the seat with us. Instead he stayed a few yards away, barking and howling. Its master spoke to it gently, and then shouted and got angry. But the dog would not come to him or stop making a noise. It was furious, its eyes wild, and all its hair standing up like a cat's tail when kitty is ready to fight.
