We are expecting a visit soon from Mr Holmwood. (He is actually the Honourable Arthur Holmwood, the only son of Lord Godalming). Arthur can't come at once, because he has to stay in London. His father is ill. I think dear Lucy is counting the moments until he comes. She wants to take him up to the park seat on the cliff near the churchyard, and show him how beautiful Whitby is. I think all the waiting waiting for him to come has upset her. She will be all right when he arrives.
27 July - There is no news from Jonathan. I am getting very uneasy about him, though I do not know why I should. Still, I really wish that he would write, even if his letter was only a single line.
