The adventure of the speckled band

At about nine o'clock in the evening the light among the trees went out, and the Manor House was dark. Two hours went slowly past. Then, suddenly, at eleven o'clock, we saw a single bright light coming from the old house.

"That is for us," said Holmes, jumping up; "it comes from the middle window, where Miss Stonor is."

We left the hotel. We told the owner of the hotel that we were going to visit a friend. We said that we might spend the night with our friend. Then we were out on the dark road. The wind was cold, and we had just one light, far away, to show us where to go.
