Good News

August 9.Joy, joy, joy! At last, I have news of Jonathan. My dear friend has been ill, and that is why he did not write. Now that I know the truth, I am not afraid anymore.

Mr. Hawkins forwarded a letter to me and wrote a very kind note. I am leaving tomorrow morning to go to Jonathan. I will help to nurse him if necessary and bring him home. Mr. Hawkins says it would be a good idea for us to get married while we are there.

I have cried so much over the letter that the paper is wet. I keep it close to my chest because I love him so much. My journey is all mapped out and my bags are ready. I am only taking one extra dress.

Lucy will bring my large trunk to London and keep it for me. I must stop writing now. I want to save my words for Jonathan, my husband. The letter he touched will comfort me until we meet again.
