A Letter from the Convent

August 2, "Dear Madam. I am writing on behalf of Mr. Jonathan Harker. He is not strong enough to write himself, but he is improving well. He has been in our care for six weeks, suffering from a serious mental illness.

He wants me to send his love. I am also writing to Mr. Peter Hawkins to say that Jonathan is sorry for the delay and that his work is finished. He needs a few weeks of rest in our hospital in the hills before he returns. He wants to pay for his stay here so that the money can help other people who are lacking help."

P.S.--My patient is asleep, so I am adding this note. He told me that you will soon be his wife. The doctor says he has suffered a terrible shock. In his delirium, he has said many scary things about wolves, poison, and ghosts. Please be very careful with him and do not let anything excite him for a long time."
