'Look there again! Someone is steering very strangely. The ship acts as though no-one is in control. She changes direction every time the wind changes. We'll hear more about that ship before this time tomorrow."

'There has just been one of the greatest and most sudden storms ever known here. Something so strange has never happened before. Recently the weather has been rather hot and humid, but that happens often in the month of August. On Saturday evening the weather was as good as anyone can remember. Yesterday, many people went on visits to Mulgrave Woods, Robin Hood's Bay, and the other holiday spots around Whitby. The steamships Emma and Scarborough made trips up and down the coast, and there were an unusual number of people travelling to and from the town of Whitby.
