Dracula

A broken mirror

When the Count saw my face, and his eyes suddenly looked angry and as evil as a devil from hell. He made a sudden grab at my throat. I moved away from him, and his hand touched the beads which held the crucifix. He changed instantly. The fury vanished so quickly that I could hardly believe that it had really happened.

"Be careful," he said, "take care not to cut yourself. It is more dangerous than you think in this country." Then he picked up the shaving mirror. "And this is the thing that has caused the problem. It is a terrible thing that we use only to admire ourselves. Let us not have it any more!" He opened the window with one pull of his terrible hand. Then he threw out the mirror. The mirror fell on to the stones of the courtyard far below and broke into a thousand pieces. Then Dracula left me without saying another word. All this is very annoying, because I need a mirror to shave, unless I can find something else which is shiny enough for me to see my reflection.
