Bedtime in the castleThe Count's eyes shone in the firelight. He said. "Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!" I suppose he saw some look on my face that he did not understand, because then he said, "Ah, Sir, you people who live in the city cannot enter into the feelings of a hunter." Then he stood up and said.
"But you must be tired. Your bedroom is all ready, and tomorrow you can sleep as late as you want. I have to be away until the afternoon, so sleep well and dream well!" With a polite bow, he opened the door for me. I entered the octagonal room which was my bedroom.
I really do not know what to think. I doubt. I fear. I think strange things, which I do not dare to say even to myselfl. God keep me safe, if only for the good of those people who love me!
