The next morning

His new friend departed. Mr Tupman had a bit of trouble finding the hole in his nightcap, and finally knocked over his candlestick as he tried to put it on his head. He eventually got into bed though this was not easy for him either, and soon afterwards he was fast asleep.

The church bell had hardly finished ringing for seven o'clock on the following morning, when Mr Pickwick's great mind was woken from a deep sleep by a loud knock at his bedroom door. 'Who's there?' said Mr Pickwick, sitting up in bed.
