About Dogs and Ladies

'Not at the moment,' said Mr Winkle.

'Ah! you should keep dogs - they are fine animals - they are very wise - I had a dog of my own once. I was out shooting one day - entering some private property - I whistled and the dog stopped - I called him again; he just stood absolutely still. I saw that he was staring at a board - and on it was written -"The farmer will shoot all dogs found on this property" - so he wouldn't go there. A wonderful dog - a very valuable dog.'
