This is an example of a question, and how to answer it. The text in black is the exam question, the text in green is what you should be writing (or thinking!). The example essay is in blue.
You are going away for a few days, and your friend will visit your house to feed your pet. Write a note of about 150 words.
Notes
A. thanking your friend for helping B. saying where you have left the food C. what to do if there are any problems
Quick check - will this be formal or informal? Do I understand all the information in the bullet points?
My Essay plan
It's to my friend, so I should use an informal writing style.
I must thank my friend, and also say how I will reward her - a present from where I am going maybe. (I'll say I'm on holiday for a few days.)
What pet shall I choose? If I know about a particular kind of pet, such as tropical fish, I would use that, but I don't have a pet, so I'll choose something simple - a cat.
Do I know what cats eat? Catfood and mice. Where would I leave cat food?
Problems? A vet maybe, also another friend who knows about cats. Also how to contact me.
Quick check - have I included all the information? Am I writing anything 'off topic'?
Essay
Dear Carol
Thank you for feeding Tiddles while I am in France. I know she will look forward to your visits. In return I will bring home a bottle of your favourite French wine!
Since Tiddles will be able to go outdoors through her little hole in the door, she might be able to catch some mice, but still please give her two packets of the cat food in the kitchen cupboard. Remember not to leave packets out of the cupboard, or she will try to open them herself and make a mess. Also please check she has fresh water to drink.
I've left the phone number of my hotel in France, so call me any time if there is a problem. If you can't reach me, I've also left the phone number of the vet, and also the number of Mr Jones. He has promised to feed the cat if you can't make it for any reason.
Thanks so much for helping me.
your friend
Robert
