Before you understand storage, you need to know how it is measured. Here are the names which are used to measure it. Read carefully - you will have a quiz as your last exercise in this unit!

In the beginning was the bit. A bit is 1 or 0

Bits were put together to make bytes

There are exactly eight bits in a byte, and 1 byte = one letter or punctuation mark

for example:

01101000 = h
and
01101000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111 = hello.
