Third Conditional

Let's learn about conditionals

A third conditional sentence has two clauses, an "if" clause and a "result" clause:

if clause if + subject + verb in past perfect form
if    she    had taken a taxi
result clause subject + would (OR could, OR might)+ have + past participle
she    would not have   been    so late.

The third conditional is used to talk about things which did not happen in the past. It is often used to express criticism or regret:

For example:
If I had been a good skier I would not have had an accident.
(I am not a good skier, so I fell down and broke my leg.)
