A postscript from Mina, and Dr Steward's diary

P.S. Oh, about Number Three, I don't have to tell you about Number Three, do I? Besides, it was all so confused. It all seemed to take just a moment. One second he was coming into the room and then both his arms were round me, and he was kissing me. I am very, very happy, and I don't know what I have done to deserve such happiness. In the future I will try to show that I am grateful to Providence for its goodness to me, because I have such a lover, such a husband, and such a friend.

Dr. Steward's Diary (Kept in phonograph)

25 May. I have a very poor appetite today. I cannot eat and cannot rest, so I'm doing my diary instead. Since Lucy refused to marry me yesterday I have had a sort of empty feeling. Nothing in the world seems important enough to be worth doing. I know that the only cure for this sort of thing is work, so today I was with my patients. I picked out one whom I have previously studied with much interest. He is so quaint that I am determined to understand him as well as I can. Today I seemed to get nearer than ever before to the heart of his mystery.
