Renfield Escapes
I am very tired tonight and sad. I keep thinking about Lucy. If I cannot sleep, I must take medicine. But I do not want this to become a bad habit. No, I will take nothing tonight! I must stay awake.
Later. I am glad I did not take the medicine. I was tossing in my bed and heard the clock strike two times. Then the night worker came to my room. He said that Renfield had escaped. I put on my clothes and ran downstairs. Renfield is dangerous and cannot be outside alone.
The worker was waiting for me. He said he saw Renfield ten minutes ago. Renfield looked asleep in his bed when the worker looked through the small peephole in the door. Then the worker heard the window break. He ran back and saw Renfield’s feet go out the window. Renfield was wearing only his night clothes, so he cannot be far away.
