"We Szekelys have a right to be proud, for in our veins flows the blood of many brave races. They fought in the same way that lions fight, because they want to be the master. Here in my country is where all the European races have mixed together. The Ugric tribe came down from Iceland, and they brought with them the fighting spirit which was the gift of Thor and Wodin. This is the fighting spirit which their Berserkers showed on the coasts of Europe, yes, and in Asia and Africa too. The people they attacked thought that they were half human, and half wolf.

They came here, too, and they found the Huns, whose armies had swept across the earth like a living flame. The people who the Huns killed believed that the Huns were the children of old witches. These witches were driven out of the land of Scythia and had children with the devils in the desert. Fools, fools! What devil or what witch was ever as great as Attila, whose blood is in my veins?"

He held up his arms. "No wonder that we were a conquering race, that we were proud! When our enemies, the people who lived in the countries around us, attacked us with thousands of men, we drove them back.
