'This Association knows very well the advantages to science which must come from the production of the paper which they have just heard; and also from the unwearied researches of Samuel Pickwick, Esq., G.C.M.P.C., in Hornsey, Highgate, Brixton, and Camberwell. Therefore they can be completely certain of the inestimable benefits which must inevitably result from carrying the work of the learned Mr Pickwick even further. By travelling to other places, and consequently having so much more to see, he will advance knowledge, and spread learning.'
'Because of the opinion just mentioned, this Association has seriously considered a proposal coming from Samuel Pickwick, Esq., G.C.M.P.C., and three other Pickwickians to create a new branch of United Pickwickians, which will be called The Corresponding Society of the Pickwick Club. This proposal has received the permission and approval of this Association.'
'The Corresponding Society of the Pickwick Club is therefore now created; and Samuel Pickwick, Esq., G.C.M.P.C., Tracy Tupman, Esq., M.P.C., Augustus Snodgrass, Esq., M.P.C., and Nathaniel Winkle, Esq., M.P.C., are to be members of the club. They are requested to send to the Pickwick Club in London, from time to time, authenticated reports of their journeys and investigations. They should say what they have seen and done, and all of their adventures, together with all tales and papers which local scenery or other groups of people may make worth reporting.
