The Pickwick Papers

The travellers' club

'We all know very well that the paper which we have just heard will be very important to science. And we know that science has also been helped very much by the work of Samuel Pickwick, Esq., G.C.M.P.C., in Hornsey, Highgate, Brixton, and Camberwell *. Therefore we are all completely sure of the great amount of good which must come from carrying the work of the wise Mr Pickwick even further. By travelling to other places, and therefore having so much more to see, he will advance knowledge and spread learning.'

'Because of this we have seriously considered a suggestion coming from Samuel Pickwick, Esq., G.C.M.P.C., and three other Pickwickians to create a new part of our United Pickwickians club, which will be called The Corresponding Society of the Pickwick Club'.

We have given this suggestion our permission, and we think it is a good idea.
So The Corresponding Society of the Pickwick Club has now been formed; and Samuel Pickwick, Esq., G.C.M.P.C., Tracy Tupman, Esq., M.P.C. *, Augustus Snodgrass, Esq., M.P.C., and Nathaniel Winkle, Esq., M.P.C., are to be members of the club. They are asked to send to the Pickwick Club in London, from time to time, true stories of their journeys and investigations. They should say what they have seen and done, and all of their adventures, together with anything interesting which they find in the scenery or clubs of people in places they go to.

* All these are parts of London
* Esq is like 'Mr' and M.P.C. is for 'Member of the Pickwick Club'.
