The Pickwick Papers

Strange Behaviour by the Cabbie.

'Here's your payment for the journey,' said Mr Pickwick, holding out the shilling to the driver.

To Mr Pickwick's great astonishment, the cabbie did not take the fare. Instead he threw the money onto the pavement, and told Mr Pickwick that it would give him great pleasure to fight him for the money!

'You are mad,' said Mr Snodgrass.

'Or drunk,' said Mr Winkle.

'Or both,' said Mr Tupman.

'Come on!' said the cab-driver, jumping up and down and punching the air. 'Come on - all four on you.'

'Here's a bit of fun!' shouted half a dozen other cab drivers. 'Go on, Sam!' - and they crowded around Sam the cabbie, and Mr Pickwich and his friends with great interest and amusement.
