Sherlock Holmes Investigates

 

"My stepfather's papers about his business. I saw inside, once, several years ago. I remember that it was full of papers."

"Do you think that there is a cat in it? Look at this!" Holmes picked up some milk which was on the top of the safe.

"What a strange idea. No; we don't have a cat. But there is a cheetah and a baboon."

"Ah, yes, of course! Well, a cheetah is a big cat. But if it is hungry, a bit of milk will not be much good. I also want to check something." He went to the wooden chair. He looked at it very carefully for a long time.

"Thank you. I am now sure about that," he said. He stood up "Hello! Here is something interesting!" He was looking at a small dog whip. It was hanging on one corner of the bed. There was a strange knot on the end like a lasso.

"What do you think that is, Watson?"
