Sherlock Holmes Investigates

 

"It rings a bell in the housekeeper's room. It was put there a few years ago."

"Yes, it looks new. Did your sister ask for it?"

"No, she never used it. We always used to get what we wanted for ourselves."

"Yes, it doesn't seem necessary to put it there. Excuse me for a few minutes while I look at this floor." Holmes got down to the floor and went backward and forward, looking at the floor very carefully. Then he looked at the wall too. Finally he walked over to the bed. He looked at it for a long time, and then he looked up and down the wall. Finally he took the bell-rope in his hand and gave it a hard pull.

"Oh, it's not real" he said.
