Explanations

English for Everybody - Beginners course

Let me explain...

Connecting words.

Words which you can use to help with your explanation.

Starting

You can say - "Well"   "First of all"   "You see".
(You can use those words before the phrases giving explanations which you learned in the previous section. Those words will make your explanation more fluent - see the example below.)

Going on

You can say - "Next"   "And then"   "Also"   "After that".
(You can use these words before adding another piece of information to your explanation.)

Finishing

You can say - "So"     "Finally"   "That's why"   "In the end"   "As a result".
(These phrases tell that you are finishing your explanation.)
