Steal one letter ...       put another back

You are driving a police car to the scene of a crime. To go down each street you need to take one letter out of a word, and put another letter in to give the word a new meaning.

For example:
D   R   I   P   must be changed to a word meaning Tears apart

To do this, you steal the 'D', and put back a new letter - 'S' . You can see that you can take a letter away from anywhere in the word, and put another letter back in the same place or in another part of the word.

R   I   P   S

Then you will get another clue telling you the word you must make to go down the next street, and so on, until you have reached the scene of the robbery.
